When William Butler Yeats was awarded the 1923 Nobel Prize for Literature, the committee praised his poetry “which in a highly artistic form gives expression to the spirit of a whole nation”. The nation in question is now returning the compliment by giving expression to the spirit of Yeats. As 2015 is the 150th anniversary of his birth, it’s officially been designated the National Year of Yeats.

Various parts of Ireland can lay claim to the poet, who was born in Dublin and later spent the summers of the 1920s in his own Galway castle named Thoor Ballylee, cheap jordan shoes, now known as Yeats’ Tower. But County Sligo (motto: Land of Heart’s Desire, the title of one of his plays) tends to win the Yeats tourism stakes. Its wild loveliness inflamed his childhood imagination, it’s where The Lake Isle of Innisfree - the poem most people associate with Yeats - is set and it’s where he’s buried, in Drumcliff churchyard,http://leonardo.zsme.pl/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=0cheapjordanshoesfreeshipping.com/bolg, under the shadow of Ben Bulben, that flat-topped mountain which falls like an extraordinary pleated curtain across the landscape.

Sligo’s festivities will kick off early, on January 23,cheap jordans for sale, with the four-day 22nd Yeats Winter School (yeatssociety.com). The poet’s birthday on June 13 – Yeats Day – will be marked with a street carnival (yeatsday.com) and the Yeats International Summer School, which begins on July 26, will trigger poetry readings, talks, walks, cheap jordans online, musical events and art exhibitions (including the paintings of his brother, Jack Yeats) throughout the town.

If this sounds too intense, you can always retreat to that other Irish institution, the pub. Hargadons at 5 O’Connell St was built the year before Yeats was born and is inviting all-comers to read a Yeats’ poem of their choice at 1pm every day of the Year of Yeats – Good Friday and Christmas Day, of course, excepted.

How to go:
The easiest access to Sligo’s is from Ireland West Airport Knock, served by Aer Lingus (0871 718 2020; aerlingus.com) from Gatwick; FlyBe (0871 700 2000,http://honeybadgerpress.ca/node/187#comment-13633919cheapjordanshoesfreeshipping.com/bolg; flybe.com) from Birmingham and Manchester; and Ryanair (0871 246 0000; ryanair.com) from Bristol, Liverpool, Luton, Nottingham and Stansted

Nicola Sturgeon’s ministers have refused to attend the first shipment of shale gas from the US to Scotland despite the owner of the Grangemouth refinery stating the move would save 10,000 jobs and the plant from closure.

A tanker carrying 27,5...lds sailed down the Forth in central Scotland to the plant, owned by petrochemical plans Ineos, cheap air jordans, as part of a ?1.6 billion project that will secure its future for the next 20 years.

David Mundell, the Scottish Secretary, attended the event on behalf of the UK Government but there was no representative from the Scottish Government. It was claimed the relevant ministers had “previous diary commitments.”

Derek Mackay, cheap retro jordans, Ms Sturgeon’s Finance Minister, and Keith Brown, her Economy Minister, were spotted shortly afterwards eating lunch in the Scottish Parliament canteen in nearby Edinburgh.

The snub came after Ineos urged Ms Sturgeo...import American shale gas, jordan shoes. The Scottish Government is currently considering whether to allow the controversial technique but the First Minister has said she is “highly sceptical.”

Jim Ratcliffe, the company’s founder and chairman, argued that fracking could help reverse the sharp decline in British manufacturing and revive areas of the country that are in decline thanks to the closure of heavy industries.

He said Grangemouth was “on its knees” and would have closed without the US shale gas, before expressing his “disappointment” that no SNP ministers attended the event, which was attended by around 200 people. A senior Ineos source later went further and described the snub as “shocking”.

In contrast, Ms Sturgeon will attend the official reopening of the Dalzell steel mill in Motherwell on Wednesday, which new owners Liberty House say will employ 120 people, potentially rising to 200.

Murdo Fraser, the Scottish Tories’ Shadow Finance Minister, said the SNP should drop its “infantile objections” to fracking. He said: “There is a startlingly blatant hypocrisy in the Scottish Government welcoming the arrival of shale, yet ruling Scotland out of ever generating its own.

“Frankly, it’s insulting that no Scottish Government minister could be bothered turning up to this arrival.”

The tanker was prevented from docking by high winds at midday, as scheduled, and was anchored outside the port in the Forth estuary. Another attempt was due to be made at midnight.

It is one of eight vessels forming a "virtual pipeline" between the US and the UK and Norway, which Ineos claims will transform Grangemouth’s economic viability.

The site is said to contribute about three per cent of Scottish GDP and is home to Europe’s largest ethane tank. Mr Ratcliffe said that "for the next 20 years, now Grangemouth's future is totally assured, those 10,000 jobs will be in very safe hands".

He also repeated his warning to Ms Sturgeon that it would be difficult for her to get independence without fracking, given Scotland’s annual deficit is ?15 billion.

SNP ministers imposed a moratorium on fracking pending further scientific tests and public consultation. Although ministers say they have yet to decide whether to impose a permanent ban, a majority of SNP members are hostile to it.

Scottish Government insiders said Mr Brown could not attend as he was at Scottish Cabinet,http://siemprelucenacf.es/index.php/component/user/?option=com_content&view=article&id=115cheapjordanshoesfreeshipping.com/bolg,jordans for cheap, although it was not clear why he could not excuse himself. Paul Wheelhouse, the E... was chairing a taskforce that is trying to mitigate the impact of the Longannet power station. They did not say where Mr Mackay was, although he could also have been at Cabinet.

A Scottish Government spokesman said: “Grangemouth is a site of significant importance for the Scottish economy and we will go on working to support its long term future,Kicksokok.com, as we have in the past.”
